And we have another winner on my blog!!! This time I asked my 10 year old daughter Rosa and as you can see, she is very different from her little sister. Not so much into fairytales and dressing up, but more of a tomboy really, who likes to play soccer and Minecraft. With a bit of help from her robot she picked….

So happy to be back with some more wonderful and exciting news for you. In February the fantabulous Marieke Blokland from Bloknote Academy started a guest teacher competition for her very succesful and fun Art Journal Summer School. I had just quit one of my jobs because I wanted to spend more time with my family and pursue my lifelong dream of becoming an artist so obviously I thought: “Let’s give this a try!” And… Yay, I won! Can you believe that? So thrilled and honoured!!!
Now let me tell you a bit more about Art Journal Summer School. AJSS is a collaborative ten week summer online art journaling and mixed media e-course. All teachers work with the same limited supplies and all supplies fit together in one toiletry bag. There is always room for one more toiletry bag, right? I think this is such a charming idea and from my own experience I know that less is often more. Having less to choose from sparks your creativity and gives you a chance to really get to know your products. You will be amazed with what you can do with a basic but well thought trough selection of mixed media supplies.
New to art journaling and mixed media? Don’t know where to start? Well, this is the perfect course for you. But with the fantastic teacher line up there will be plenty of inspiration and new techniques for experienced journalers too:
So join us for your most creative summer ever and sign up!
But wait… I can also give away one free spot on this amazing course! This is how you enter the give away:
I have some wonderful & exciting news! I am going to be teaching on Ever After this year! I feel so thrilled, honoured and HAPPY!!! And… I can give away 1 space on this magical new collaborative art course! Yay!!! Keep reading if you want to find out more about Ever After and if you want to find out how you can win a spot!
First let me tell you a bit more about Ever After in case you haven’t heard about it yet. Ever After is a mixed media art & style development course with a fairytale theme hosted by the amazing Tamara Laporte from Willowing Arts. Tam is joined by 15 popular mixed media art teachers who will all share beautiful fairy-tale & myth inspired lessons AND their hints and tips on how they developed their own style. That sounds great right? And from my own personal experience I can tell you: “It is not just great, it is AMAZING!!!”
I took this course as a student last year and it was a life changer. Not only did it help me find my own voice, but it also gave me the courage to start pursuing my dream of becoming an artist. Since Ever After 2016 I started posting my work publicly on Facebook and Instagram, I started filming tutorials for YouTube and now – one year later – I am one of the teachers… Can you believe that? Please pinch me because I can hardly believe it myself! 🙂
For my lesson I have chosen to portray one of my very favourite characters from Harry Potter: the unique, open-minded and sometimes brutally honest Luna Lovegood. You just have to love Luna! I will be sharing with you my love for whimsical characters, watercolours and the things they can do. Just to give you an idea of what to expect, I have included below a little protrait I did of Queenie Goldstein from Fantastic Beasts. Now this is just a journal page, not a finished piece and my lesson will be way more detailed.
Registration opens on May 17th 2017 and the class begins on July 1st 2017. So if you want to start your summer drawing and painting fairy-tales, exploring your own personal story and style and hang out with a wonderful creative community of like-minded souls, be sure to join once registration opens! Keep this page bookmarked so that you can sign up the moment it goes on sale!
Now then, onto the give-away and blog hop! I can give away 1 space on Ever After to 1 lucky winner! And if you follow the blog hop (see below for links and dates) you can up your chances of winning a space by entering all the other give-aways also!
When I came across Ali Brown’s Honey’s Slim Pickins Challenge on YouTube, I knew I wanted to give that a try. It’s a limited supplies challenge for journalers and – as you may know – I really like getting creative using only limited supplies and colours.
So I asked my husband to pick me five supplies and I knew he would choose well. He sees me draw and paint almost every single evening so he kinda knows what I need and like. This is what he picked:
A Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer watercolour pencil in Delft Blue for sketching and shading;
A Tim Holtz Distress Marker in Mermaid Lagoon for both outlining and colouring;
Two Ecoline Brush Pens by Talens in Magenta and Ochre Deep (I ♥ them!!!)
A white Posca paint pen for highlights
I filmed the whole process and the video is now up on my YouTube channel:
I hope you like it and please feel free to ask me any questions!
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you may have noticed my recent obsession with limited colours, limited supplies and the Ecoline Brush Pens. People have asked me quite a few questions about them, so I thought: “Lets make a video on how I use them in my projects.” I hope you like it and please let me know if you have any questions!
For more information on these markers and a colour chart, check out the Talens-website.
