In February the fantabulous Marieke Blokland from Bloknote Academy started a guest teacher competition for her very succesful and fun Art Journal Summer School. I had just quit one of my jobs because I wanted to spend more time with my family and pursue my lifelong dream of becoming an artist so obviously I thought: “Let’s give this a try!” And… Yay, I won! Can you believe that? So thrilled and honoured!!!

Now let me tell you a bit more about Art Journal Summer School. AJSS is a collaborative ten week summer online art journaling and mixed media e-course. All teachers work with the same limited supplies and all supplies fit together in one toiletry bag. There is always room for one more toiletry bag, right? I think this is such a charming idea and from my own experience I know that less is often more. Having less to choose from sparks your creativity and gives you a chance to really get to know your products. You will be amazed with what you can do with a basic but well thought trough selection of mixed media supplies.

  7. I love the summer school classes. They are self paced and I can do them at my leisure. I also love that there are no restrictions and alternative items are given so you don’t have to shell out a fortune to take the class.

  11. Congratulations on being one step closer to your dream. 💕
    I’d love to do this course with my amazingly talented 11yr old Goddaughter. I know very little about art but love “having a go”. I’d like to expand my knowledge and share it with her. We’ve always drawn and painted together since she was old enough to stick her fingers in a pot of paint. 😄
    She suffers from a lack of confidence and always doubts herself, I have depression, we both suffer from anxiety and we have this special time together when we create things and talk, I mean really TALK. Journaling together would be a fantastic way to spend our summer.

  13. Congratulations on this incredible opportunity on the path of your dream! How exciting! I love the idea of this class- having everything in a little bag. I sometimes struggle with overwhelm from so many choices in art supplies. I think this would be a wonderful class to help me grow as an artist by learning from some other amazing artists while using limited supplies.

My daughter graduated from high school last year and I’ve been trying to find something to help get over the “empty nest” feeling. I’ve been trying to get back into art after a 20+ hiatus. I shared on FB and already follow you on instagram :). This sounds like it would be the perfect class for me-I am new to art journaling and mixed media so I do not know many difffernet techniques yet nor do I have a ton of art supplies! I love how this class is a good one for all skill levels! I also love the fact that I wouldn’t have to buy a ton of new art supplies to do the lessons (money is an issue for me at the moment). Plus the fact that I’d get to learn from 12 amazing teachers with their own styles is a huge positive for me! And the icing on the cake, the class starts on my birthday 🙂

  19. I would love to do this course and learn more ways to art journal . I love this art form and it is so therapeutic in so many ways .   20. I really enjoyed last year’s Art Journal summer school. It was my first time at journaling. It afforded me the opportunity to learn to put together a small bag of media and to learn how to use those items. Marieke is an engaging teacher and chose wonderful supporting instructors. It was a fun summer for me.

  21. I love to art journal and this looks like an amazing way to bring it to another level. I have seen the fire, walked thru the storms, and am reaching for the stars all while taking care of my mom with Parkinson’s and Daddy with lung cancer. This would be an awesome opportunity for my sooner creativity ☮️🍄❤️

  26. Thanks for this opportunity. I love summer but here…will be winter. Anyway in hot or cold I love paint and’d try this year start my very first art journal. So i need desperately the best teachers!

  27. I love the idea that all the teachers use the same supplies. I don’t have a ton of stuff as I’ve got limited space to store it and limited funds to purchase. Unfortunately I found it necessary to severely limit who sees my fb account, so I tweeted this instead as that’s more public AND I use a totally different ID on Instagram so it might not look like I followed directions LOL
